You're right, this one is ...Hoo rah for masala! You're right, this one is a fine n' dandy example of every story type piled strategically into a fun romp. Not to mention, we get to watch a black sweatered, Kevlar-vested SRK duke it out with Sunil Shetty in a grenade belt. That alone is worth the price of admission. I only wish they'd spent a hair less time on wastrel Lucky and hair more time having SRK's character acting like an actualy bodyguard. But that ain't gonna stop me from watching it all over again, about 20 more times.JDnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-79723819638700739.post-32968706978687977862010-07-12T08:02:31.418-07:002010-07-12T08:02:31.418-07:00Amen, right on, good review. You are right - this ...Amen, right on, good review. You are right - this film has everything. I am a devotee mostly because I love pencil straight, Studly Shahrukh (who ought to be let out far more often!). For my money, Sunil Shetty in a zany 'fro and grenade belt vs. Shahrukh in a black sweater and Kevlar vest is a heaven on scaffold. I love that scene. It's a particularly satisfying finale to the journey through loss and recovery. Glorious. Farah rules but I am sad to read she's now shooting films minus SRK as leading man.JDnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-79723819638700739.post-37506567352446272042010-02-23T01:23:24.709-08:002010-02-23T01:23:24.709-08:00Waah..the first "Tabu-SRK in the same scene&q...Waah..the first "Tabu-SRK in the same scene" spotting I read from MHN review! I'm trying to get everyone warming up to the idea of these two sharing a substantial space on-screen. Directed by Mani. How does that sound?? *hyper*

SRK said it's more difficult to make a commercially entertaining movie that appeals across the spectrum (from our 90-yr old gramma to our 9-yr old niece)..and I agree with him. Altho he did jump into the high-brow bandwagon with gusto via Dil Se, Swades, CDI & the latest MNIK.

I think with SRK, the thing that hurts his films the most in terms of audience acceptance (hence..BO collection) is the image each viewer has of him. Hence, the one who go for the bubble gum hero won't like his character-driven roles that much. The ones who're eternally in love with his artfully played complex characters (like me) watch his chocolate-y self and wish for him to return to his dazzling self in the good old days. SRK can't please everyone, and yet he's still churning out big hits. It's time people recognize him as an amazing actor par excellenzzze (oh, and stop plying his movies with non-related off-screen controversies)labcacAmihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14459004212652808197noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-79723819638700739.post-87800226197018927732009-03-02T10:20:00.000-08:002009-03-02T10:20:00.000-08:00Farah Khan's movies are soo refreshing! I think people that don't appreciate them aren't aware of the wittiness someone must have to make a beautiful "spoof" AND at the same time "tribute" film.
Plus, I really really enjoy her choreographies.

About Shahrukh: I love him on and also outside of the screen because only a clever person can be so autoironic in his movies :P
Plus (#2): It isn't only seriousness on work that shows someone's skills (*whistles thinking about someone in particular*). You need also other virtues, that Shahrukh definitely has.

I found this site yesterday by chance... and what a chance! I read all your reviews about movies I already watched and I was surprised to see I agree with almost all your opinions! Also in details (ex: I though too, in "Cheeni Kum", the things you said about Sexy's role - and the sentence "You are so S/s-exy").
I was particulary delighted by the Independence Day's review (aka my most favourite "omg-it's-the-end-of-the-world!" movie)! LOL!
And Empire strikes back!!! I respect people who really know which movie of Star Wars' TRILOGY (*cough* They are 6? I dunno...) is the best.

BUT...
"Come te nessuno mai" is terribile, in reality! Here in Italy we use to make fun of the Muccinos' (vain and plain) pretentiosness... Have you ever wondered why Muccino senior works only in the States nowadays?
"Swept away" is soo good. I like above all the fact that it has two different "meaning", one about (sado-maso)love and the other about politics.
Another really good movie about the 70's in Italy is "Indagine su di un cittadino al di sopra di ogni sospetto" with the incredible Gian Maria Volonté. It deals "only" about politics, but yet it's so appealing...!
About the history of Italy from the '60's to present days we have "La meglio gioventù" by Giordana.
Check them out!!!

Bye!
Kallista (from Italy)

p.s.: sorry for my English, my comprehension is better than my writing :P I swear!
P.s.p.s.: I'll follow you for sure.
