FAQs

WHAT IS THIS "POST-PUNK" YOU SPEAK OF?

While there is indeed a genre of post-punk cinema (e.g. Fight Club, Requiem for a Dream), our use of the term "post-punk" refers to the audience, not the film. Meaning by the nature of our interests, we are post-punks. For example, Radiohead is post-punk and we like Radiohead. The Post Punk Kitchen (our inspirator) is vegetarian and we're vegetarian (most of the time).

WHY CINEMA "CLUB" RATHER THAN "SOCIETY"?

Because "society" implies elitism, and we are egalitarian. All may and should bask in the glory of our glorious post-punk reviews. We also like to host movie nights in our home.

WHAT SORT OF MOVIES WILL YOU REVIEW?

Cool ones. Usually foreign cool ones. And just so we're clear, subtitles ALWAYS beat dubbing.

ARE YOU BIASED BY THE BOY LOVE?

MAN love.

WILL THIS BE A PROBLEM?

Only if you're uptight.

Actually, we sometimes worry about this one, as we're presumably attuned to gender-sensitivity in culture. And yet we're the worst objectifiers ever! You may laugh, but we seriously are concerned. Is there some sort of Objectifiers Anonymous course?

FAVORITE MOVIE EVER?

The Empire Strikes Back. (All post-punks appreciate Star Wars, despite the conventional mainstream monster it has become.)

FAVORITE DAY EVER?

The day we discovered we were like a sponge, and there was so much beautiful foreign cinema liquid to soak up. That was a good day.

WHERE DOES THE PPCC COME FROM?

The PPCC is a living, breathing product of globalization.

We are very happy to live in a world where Ugandan pop is just a click away, where Hindi films featuring Venice and the Riviera are available down the street from us, where people migrate, cultures cross-fertilize, and the Internet is speedy. We don't understand nationalism, but we understand pride in your culture - and we are BIG proponents of the mixing and meshing of different cultures.

YOU REVIEW AN AWFUL LOT OF HINDI FILMS, DO YOU EVEN SPEAK HINDI?

SHOW OFF.

Possiamo anche parlare in italiano.

OK, SHUT UP. TELL US A BIT ABOUT THE PPCC. WHO IS THE PPCC'S HERO?

For film criticism: A.O. Scott
For Hindi masala: Shashi Kapoor
For evolving forward with a globalized, Internet world culture: the people of Boing Boing
For having presence: Toshiro Mifune
For keeping us cool: 3hive
For keeping our dil pumping: MusicIndiaOnline
For inspiring our science fiction masterpiece: Umrao Jaan

OK, enough.

On with the show!

I too am vegetarian most of the time. And the other part of the time, I like bacon. Or am a guest at someone's house and they serve meat.
